Educate
Though my experience of educating others is not in the classical classroom sense, I find value in a variety of educational opportunities. Charles C Bonwell's work in theories of education emphasizes the useful technique of active learning. "Active learning involves students in doing things and thinking about the things they are doing." Learning is not simply knowing facts resonates with my experiences of educating others. I believe in meeting people where they are and assisting them through practical and humble assistance. For example, my summer spent as a camp counselor provided countless opportunities to educate and inspire the kids around me. I learned how to teach through service and companionship. My work as a writing tutor has allowed me to develop my teaching skills with students from all academic and social backgrounds. In the process I have discovered that my passion for language and communication drives my abilities as a tutor. My teaching experiences involve equiping peers and teens with a comfortable environment, a voice of confidence, and the tools to gain understanding.
